Provides energy assistance, child and adult protective, foster care, adoption, Medicaid, food stamps, work first.

Emergency Assistance

Families who are experiencing a financial emergency may be eligible for financial help to pay for housing and utilities.

Families that meet the following criteria may be eligible for Emergency Assistance:

    The family must have a child who lives with a relative as defined for Work First Family Assistance and who meets the age limit for Work First cash assistance.
    Total income must be at or below 200% of poverty level.
    Families statement is acceptable for citizenship and identity unless it is questionable. If in doubt, request appropriate verification.

Counties may set requirements that are more restrictive than these, but not requirements that are more lenient.

Other assistance programs are available through Work First. These include the First Stop Employment Assistance Program and Substance Abuse Services.

1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
